Petra Andersson, Chair, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden
Petra Andersson has worked with fire research for more than 20 years. She obtained her PhD in Fire Safety engineering at Lund University in 1997 and has since then worked with Fire Research at RISE (former SP) with various research topics such as fire detection, functional performance during fires, extinguishment and environmental effects. Her research includes both simulations and experiments. Lately her research has been more focused on Electric and Hybrid vehicles.
Joseph Kolly, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration USA
In 2016, Dr. Joseph M. Kolly became the first Chief Safety Scientist at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In this role, he advises the Administrator on technical and safety related matters and applies his many years of experience in transportation safety, investigation, and scientific research across NHTSA’s traffic safety portfolio. Before joining NHTSA, Dr. Kolly worked at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for 18 years as an investigator and manager. In 2009, he became the Director of the Office of Research and Engineering. As Director, he oversaw the agency’s Materials Laboratory, Recorders Laboratory, Vehicle Performance, and Safety Research Divisions and was responsible for hundreds of investigations annually. Dr. Kolly holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Eric Guillaume, Efectis, France
Eric Guillaume works in fire sciences since 1998. He formerly led the fire behaviour department of French Railway. He moved in 2005 as head of Fire safety studies department in LNE, then as head of research for whole LNE testing activities. He is nowadays General Manager of Efectis, France, company providing fire testing, fire assessments and fire engineering. He is a fire expert involved in various missions, including teaching, standardization and regulation, fire toxicity and modelling fire behaviour of materials. In the field of fire safety, he is the author of more than 40 scientific publications, 10 book chapters and more than 130 conference acts. He is also chairman of ISO TC92/SC3 “Fire threat to People and the Environment”, convenor of the standardization committees ISO TC92/SC3/WG1, concerning fire models for toxicity testing, and ISO TC61/SC4/WG2 concerning smoke opacity and corrosivity for plastics.
Birgitte Messerschmidt, FPRF, USA
Birgitte Messerschmidt has 20+ years of experience in the fire performance of construction products ranging from testing and research to standardization and advocacy. She was part of the team that developed the harmonized European test and classification scheme and have been instrumental in pushing fire safety onto the political agenda in Europe. As Applied Research Director at NFPA she is pursuing her passion for fire safety by ensuring that research of relevance to the fire community as well as in depth information on the fire problem are communicated effectively to a wide range of stakeholders
Dr. Anja Hofmann-Böllinghaus, BAM, Germany
Studied Physical Engineering in Berlin and did her PhD in BAM and TU Berlin in Fire Safety. Since 2007 responsible for “Enclosure fires and reaction-to-fire tests of building products”. Active in national and international standardisation committees, Vicepresident of GFPA – German fire protection association and Associate editor of Fire and Materials Journal.
Michael Försth, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden
Michael Försth gained his MSc degree (1995) at Uppsala University,Sweden, in Engineering Physics. He received his PhD (2001) in Physics at Chalmers University of Technology, in Gothenburg, Sweden. Prof. Försth is research manager at RISE Safety & Transport and professor at Luleå Technical University. He is an expert in bus fire safety and has been in charge of projects on fire regulations and standardization. He has been active in implementing research results into the society, for example through the GRSG (The Working Party on General Safety provisions) at UN ECE, (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) in Geneva.
